Roxana Marin

Grassroots Activist

“If one can be taught anything, one can also be untaught everything: rules, norms, definitions, recipes, fixed-form poetry and prayer, shame, fear. whatever limits or takes away their freedom.”

Roxana Marin is a grassroots educator and activist, as well a public speaking coach for teens and professional adults working in profit and nonprofit settings. Another hat she wears is that of community organizer in Roma slums and mentor to young fellow-Roma and queer advocates at the onset of their course. For the past 3 years, Roxana has provided support to young transgender teens in different high schools.

Bjorn van Roozendaal

Programmes Director, ILGA-Europe

Bjorn van Roozendaal is Programmes Director with ILGA-Europe and as such responsible for overall management of ILGA-Europe’s Programmes team. He oversees the development and implementation of programmes focusing on strengthening the capacity of the movement, as well as regranting mechanisms. Bjorn coordinates ILGA-Europe’s annual conference and focuses on resource mobilisation of the European LGBTI movement.

Before joining ILGA-Europe, Bjorn worked with COC Netherlands, first as Project Consultant and later as International Advocacy Officer. He developed the international advocacy programme at COC Netherlands, and as such has worked with various international organisations, including the United Nations, the OSCE, the European Union and the Council of Europe. In this role he worked with activists from all over the world and in particularly with groups in the Balkans, Turkey and Central-Asia.

Activism started for Bjorn in 2001, when volunteering with the Dutch LGBT youth magazine ‘Expreszo’. Later he became a board member and board chair of IGLYO. Bjorn helped setup the PlanetRomeo Foundation as a board member and later supported the foundation as a member of the board of trustees. For a while Bjorn served on the LGBTI working group of Liberal International.

Matt Beard

Executive Director, All Out

“We do this work because we want to help get a fair deal for LGBT people everywhere and end bigotry and discrimination.”

Matt Beard is the Executive Director at All Out. Prior to joining All Out in early 2016 he served as the International Director of Fundraising and Communications at ActionAid, a global anti-poverty and women’s rights organisation.

All Out is a movement for love and equality. We are thousands of people of all sexual orientations and identities from across the planet, turning solidarity into action. Through respectful partnerships, we connect millions of ordinary citizens so that they can take action on, or donate to, campaigns for LGBT rights.

Workshop on online fundraising, communications and campaigning will give participants practical insights into current best practice around online fundraising, communications and campaigning.

Tudor Kovacs

Programmes Manager, IGLYO

Tudor Kovacs’s career has been focused on education, empowerment and the rights and the health of the LGBTQI community. He now works as Programmes Manager for the International Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO).

Up until the end of 2014, he managed the operations of the umbrella organisation ECOM (Eurasian Coalition on Male Health), as its Executive Director, working in advocacy and capacity building around HIV for MSM (men having sex with men) and Trans organizations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Prior to this, he worked at Population Services International (PSI) in Romania, where he led the HIV prevention and support program for men who have sex with men (MSM).  During this time, he also served on the Steering Committee of the Global Forum on MSM and HIV, participating in global level advocacy and capacity building for MSM worldwide.

He provided input to several United Nations publications and contributed to the content and rollout of UN for All program to improve workplace inclusion within the UN.

Euan Platt

Executive Director, IGLYO

Euan is the Executive Director for IGLYO. He has worked within the LGBTQI rights sector for 13 years, first in Scotland and then across Europe.

He has extensive experience in developing concepts for online campaign and film projects including Shh! Silence Helps Homophobia and We Are Here- a message for intersex youth.
