In-person Activist Academy Tallinn 2023

9-16 July 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia

We are very excited to bring the in-person Activist Academy back this summer for its fifth edition and welcome young LGBTQI activists from around the world for an unforgettable week of learning, planning, and growing!

We are looking forward to being welcomed to Tallinn, Estonia, from 9-16 July 2023 by our host Member Organisation ECOM — The Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity.

Applications for the Activist Academy Tallinn 2023 closed on Wednesday 10 May 2023 at 23:59 CEST.

IGLYO’s Activist Academy is a skills-based training programme for young people between 18 and 30 at the beginning of their activist careers who are passionate about activism, advocacy and learning, and have a strong interest in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) rights. The goal is to jumpstart younger activists into skill-demanding and leadership roles within LGBTQI organisations.

The Activist Academy 2023 will be hosted by IGLYO Member ECOM in Tallinn, Estonia. Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday 9 July 2023 and depart on Sunday 16 July 2023 (or on Saturday evening, 15 July 2023 ). The Academy itself will last 6 full days.

While the fee to participate in the Activist Academy is 50€ per participant, IGLYO will cover all expenses related to your participation (travel, accommodation, and food). IGLYO will provide the accommodation and food. You are however responsible for booking your own travel, and we will reimburse you according to our travel and reimbursement policy, which will be sent to you if you are selected.

Be prepared for a wonderful and intensive experience! In a nutshell, here’s how the programme will be organised:

  1. Breaking the ice: The first day will consist of an introductory session where we will break the ice, get to know each other, create teams, and learn more about the programme.
  2. Expert workshops:You’ll start with four interactive masterclasses led by experts (they will be announced soon) on relevant topics. Previous editions included sessions on Advocacy, Public Speaking, Workshop Facilitation, Communications, Graphic Design, and more!
  3. Real-life challenges: Once you’ve completed all the expert workshops, you will put what you’ve learnt into practice and translate your new skills and knowledge into action by undertaking two real-life challenges with the help of your team-mates and the support of mentors.
  4. Presenting and voting: You will then be asked to present your finished projects to other participants and the judges, who will vote on their favourites.
  5. Award Ceremony: The winning teams will be announced during the final live session of the Academy!
